How good are HP-BlueTooth compatibility in RP?

A friend is sending me an HP Office Jet L7780 (printer, scanner, fax capable) and recommends that the interface be via blue tooth.

How about ink?

It's supposed to use the ff inks:

C9385A HP 88 Black
C9386A HP 88 Cyan
C9387A HP 88 Magenta
C9388A HP 88 Yellow

The closest I saw from a local supplier is the HP L7590 but is on order basis and probably support may not be that great.

Thanks.

i saw this and i think there is some truth to it.

"1: Many HP Printers, like their laser printers, have a built-in page-count after which they won't work. This resides in the a transparent sometimes called image or drum kit. Rather than get the printer fixed, it's often cheaper to buy a new printer, OR you can do a NV ram reset. It resets everything in the printer, including all the page counts, but it's not without risks."

*way back sometime early 2000 our office procured an HP Deskjet with scanner add-on. we did heavy printing on that thing and i remember at a week's most a dozen reams of bond paper were easily consumed. less than 4 or 5 months after purchase it just stopped printing. :icon_blink:

Bluetooth printing might be a problem. I used to work with an HP H470b... those really compact printers. Using a Bluetooth dongle running on BlueSoleil (Windows Bluetooth driver/management software), the print process borks on somewhat intensive prints... in my case A4 maps spooled from ArcGIS. But seems to be okay on simple documents like Word stuff. But, then... you have a different printer. So results might be different with your printer. So it would be better just to use the good ol' USB connection...

Ooh... Looking at the specs at HP's website (http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/us/en/sm/WF06a/18972-18972-238444-12019-3328086-3601421.html). It does have Wired LAN and WiFI (802.11b/g) support. That means you can do network-based printing via the WiFI. So you don't even need to use Bluetooth anymore. You can just associate the printer to your wireless access point and use the bundled driver CD to make a print share on your desktop. :icon_biggrin: We have an HP network-based laser printer at work... and you'll usually need the drivers to make use of the TCP/IP printing support.

Can't really say much about the ink... but what I can say is... they're expensive. And refills (Ink King, etc.) will 'technically' void your printer's warranty (if there is still any on it).
