@ all those who successfully install the basic mosfet DIY

Hi to all of you, I have questions regarding the mosfet kit.

I made my mosfet kit following the instruction, using IRF1404. After i made the kit and test run it, after 3 single fire the component felt warm. i though it was normal, then i tried to use burst mode, then my luck runs up. It burst into flame.

Any idea on what i did wrong? please help this DIY mosfet newbie...

Thank you so much for the insteresting instructions on DIY mosfet kit...

@ sir kodokks - any details on your setup? wires used? have you checked your connections??

@ sir Jomarx,

Wow, so fast reply...thx so much sir.

it is for v3 gearbox with guarder 120 ftk with original cm028 motor. I used #18 wires all around. i followed the japanese site tutorial, making the kit without PCB. Just soldering all the parts together and shrinkwrap all components individually.

Connections:
1. 30k ohms to gate and source pin
2. 100 ohms to gate pin
3. + battery to selector switch and + motor
4. - battery to source pin
5. - motor to drain pin
6. trigger switch to gate pin

FYI, i only know very basic soldering skills, is this the reason why it failed? or is it because of the fet choice that i made (IRF1404), btw, i saw some people wrote IRL 1404z and IRL 1404zs. Which should i use?

Thank you once again sir Jomarx

@ sir kodokks - What type of wires did you use? are they the silver coated ones? or you just modified the stock wiring?

The wires that I used in my tutorial is silicon wires, the ones used in electric rice cookers.

The mosfet should have not burned on your setup, unless the motor is stressed....

@ sir Jomarx

Let me check on the wires as soon as get back from work. Im dont think its silver coated, i think its the normal copper one with lots of strand. And let me check again for sign of stressed motor.

Regarding the FET, is IRF 1404 the same as IRL1404z or IRL1404zs??

Thank you sir

The IRF (http://www.irf.com/product-info/datasheets/data/irf1404.pdf)is technically the same from the IRL (http://www.irf.com/product-info/datasheets/data/irl1404.pdf)version of the 1404. Just a few minor difference in specs.

Where did you got your wires? from your AEG or bought it from the store? Its also possible that the wires you're using couldn't support the high current requirements of your setup.

@ sir Jomarx

I got my wires from a local store. So different types of wires can influence the failure rate. i certainly didnt know that, i'll source new type of wires. Thanks for the info sir.

I've open my gearbox for closer inspection. It turned out that my selector (cm28) screw went pass the gearbox. it scrap the piston's side, maybe this overtighten screw caused the fet to explode (motor working harder to push the piston). What do you think sir???

Thanks alot Sir

Hmm, so the wires you used are regular type wires? then it can be the cause of your problem. Silicon/silver coated wires is highly recommended.

Always remember to check the gears after closing the gearbox (using a small screw driver to move/check the gears), its also a probable cause of the burned mosfet....

@sir kodokks

a point to remember when it comes to DIY mosfet kits... don't use the aeg if the mosfet gets warm or hot... doing so will cause something to break up... if that's the case then check the battery if it's properly charged, check the gears if it is shimmed properly, check if the motor is stressed and check if there are pinched wires...

and always test your DIY mosfet outside the gearbox first... if the motor runs slower before the installation of the mosfet kit, chances are you have a discharged battery or underrated wires...

hope this helps...

hirap mag english... hehehe...

na tested ko na:
sup75no6 - 75a mosfet (heats up considerably)
irf 1404 - 200a mosfet. (hardly heats up)

how do you differentiate them physically sir??thanks
yun ba ung kasama sa systema na gearbox??:icon_wink:

Sir,if i may ask,what kind of mosfet is this??thanks

@sir cream

jomarx

@ sir cream - bro terminusx is correct, the part number is located at the front side of the MOSFET.

Its the old SYSTEMA mosfet, it uses 2 50n06 MOSFETs which are in parallel configuration.

@ bro terminusx - yup! tama ka dun! mahina tlga ung mosfet na yan.... mas maganda pa ang gawa ng JG compared dyan...

thank you very much for the replies mga sirs, btw ,sir jomarx said jg has a better mosfet on its new line of aeg production;do they use a specific kind??(A.B. ba siya??)or standard fet lang??pls enlighten me on this one..thanks

The JG mosfet is better than the SYTEMA one, but the JG mosfet is no match for the mosfets of Extreme-Fire and Co.

JG mosfet units uses the irf1404 mosfet and its not an AB unit...

Fire a few shots and then check the temperature. If the mosfet doesn't heat up that much, then its ok.

Ahh, I see. You're a bit lucky in finding suitable mosfets, others are not that lucky. :icon_wink:
