A forum based chatroom is useless (based on my experience)

we had this feature last year and no one uses it. It's not fun.

kinda defeats the use of forums...

besides.. kelangan ng moderator para sa chatroom. This will tie-up admins, something thats not really practical.

the main purpose of a chatroom is for people (of different locations) to communicate....

for us, this is kinda useless because the airsoft community is a living, in-your-face, press-the-flesh organization....

the thing is, we always see each other every weekend or so....

the FAS forums, on the other hand, is pretty successful because it provides the airsoft community with what it really needs -- a place for questions and answers and opinions and information and stress management and education and and and whatever.... :icon_biggrin:

chatroom(s) are a valuable online tools used to provide realtime-awareness-for-quick-response or RAQR (pronounce as "rocker").

Used in any fieldwork as a radio frequency substitute. Widely used both in the civilian and military.

Examples are the American 911 online emergency response and the ELECINT program of the military.

We've (FAS) tried it before in the past and with the same results as Sir Malloski. I believe there is/was a Yahoo FAS messenger link. I find chatrooms a bit boring so I've never visited. It too may have disapeared

I use to administer and moderate another airsoft forum (US based) with chatroom functions. Fights in the chatroom spill out into the forums... and most of the time nothing usefull is discussed. We had 4 to 5 moderators watching the chatroom that has ban and kick functions to control fights that where arising. Fortunately it has its uses. Moderator hopefulls are assigned in the chatroom and they are watched on how they handle people... a trial by fire.

Time came when nobody wants to handle the chatroom anymore since its tedious work... moderator recruitment is seldom done.

...then the fighting starts once again.

I GUESS CHATROOM IS FOR THE GUYS WHO JUST SEAT IN HIS ROOM ALL DAY LONG..... SINCE MANY OF US ARE HARD WORKER, WE DON'T HAVE TIME TO CHAT AROUND. IF SOMEONE LIKE TO ASK SOMETHING REGARDING AIRSOFT, WHY NOT BRING IT TO THE FORUM AND LOTS OF GUYS WILL ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS ... AM I RIGHT???? :icon_lol:

This is what I'm afraid of happening...

When different opinions clash (or battle of prides), fights usually happen... :icon_sad:

I am a chat addict myself since mirc was introduced in the Philippines around 1996-97. And I agree with sir bubuyog, bandwidth will just be consumed by chatting itself, imagine the population of members here. One of the best way is to have a chat channel for airsofters over the mirc (dalnet and/or undernet servers). This is also managed by an admin and operators and moderators just like FAS and YM Rooms. To start just register at http://www.undernet.org/ (for undernet, I don't know what's the procedure for dalnet though.) and follow the instruction and READ the procedure. You need 10 supporters with a valid ISP email address and must be logged into the channel for 15 days or more (please browse the instructions). Example channel name: #FAS or #filipino_airsoft. Mga chatters buo na ng channel!

Sirs, we can control chatters as well like you guys (Moderators/MPs) do here in FAS. Hindi lang ako makapag mirc sa office kasi bawal and IPs are blocked.:icon_sad:

Sir, a "bot operator" is placed when human operators are not present. the bot can handle some of users violations. We just need scripting for the bot. any mirc chatter operator knows that. this is based on 10 years (and goin...) experience sir. trust me. it's like managing this site only in mirc its in chat mode.

with chat we can minimize similar topics/thread contents etc.
some queries specially in the technical section will be answered right away by a tech guru.... (some convenience in chat based support).

But then again... not all is ok with chatting. :icon_cool: but for me... Im cool.

@all : with my experience having a chatroom and a forum in one site.. may not suit very well.. as for my experience.. i have been to may forum sites with chatroom, it didnt go very well... you may like or hate for what im saying but it really doesnt fit, i was thinking of it before to request but as far I can say although browsing through different section or threads takes time to load (depends on your connection) is very great it makes you be more flexible and you have your own ideal time to focus on work or browse other sites, also good advises are kept and you can backread or search for old or new topics, the site is well-maintained so no need for chatroom.. and with that i am truly great... Thank FAS... http://emo.huhiho.com/set/babysoldier/64.gif
